Hi All,

Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm not really experienced with the latest operating system. I'm getting a new laptop that has Vista 64 on it. Does this version come with an antivirus pre-installed, or will I need to get an antivirus program? Also, how hard is it to go from using XP to using Vista? Thanks for the answers in advance!

Well I know nothing about Vista, but my brother has it and from what he tells me,it a big difficult to start off with, but once you get used to it,it's more user friendly than XP.

He's running AVG as an antivirus,so whatever you get,you make your mind up??

Sorry I can't help you more.

Windows itself doesn't come with AV, but chances are your laptop will come with an AV package.

However, I suggest you get rid of it and install BitDefender, AVG, or NOD32.

I am most concerned by my Cyberdefender anti-virus, photoshop and my polar meter software.

I hope it will all work on Vista, seems like it will.

I've been a computer consultant for about 3 years now, and I can say that Avast Anti-virus is one of the best free anti-viruses out there. When people bring in computers for servicing, they usually have AVG or Norton on them and turns out most computers have a virus or spyware of some form. I would definately recommend Avast Antivirus. I has an Live Scanner, doesn't slow down your PC, and updates every 4 hours with new virus definitions, and alerts you instantly of viruses found. I've never recommended anything else.

AVG doesn't have the best track record for protection, even the Free edition. When I service computers, most of them have AVG or Norton on them. 94% of them have some form of virus or spyware on them. I always uninstall the antivirus if an active subscription is not present. I would highly recommend Avast Anti-virus. It has a live scanner, it's free, and updates itself automatically.

Yes, I have moved onto suggesting Avira and Malwarebytes as the AV/anti-malware packages that should be installed on all systems. I no longer recommend AVG, Bitdefender, or Spybot.
