I used to think I had at least some grasp of the English language. After reading this topic I'm not so sure anymore.

I really like Scones. But one thing I have noticed is that alot of English people pronounce "Scone" to rhyme with "loan" rather than "Gone".

Up here we all do, so I guess we fit the British stereotype in at least one way.

Yeah I say it so that it rhymes with loan.

I don't understand people who say it as if it rhymes with gone.

Surely if there's an e on the end it is said to rhyme with loan?

Hahaha, and you think you don't sound posh!!

Well Gone has an 'e' on the end, but isn't pronounced like Loan. The English language is littered with examples of that. The main difference between American English and Uk English is that they pronounce things like they are spelt.
