If this has been posted somewhere else, forgive me. I read in the paper today that Anna Friel is taking the part of Holly Golightly on the West End stage version of Breakfast at Tiffanys. I expect she'll make a good job of it, but to me it's Audrey Hepburn's part and always will be. I wonder who could take Marilyn Monroe's part as Sugar in Some Like It Hot, for instance, if it was staged. It must be hard to portray a character that has another actor's stamp all over it.

I know what you mean, like in The Sound of Music, no one does it like Julie Andrews, she is Maria, she portrays her perfectly and with the heavenly voice to match, but if they do well, no matter how good the movie version might be, people will still talk about those particular actors. :D
