Basically most people need some kind of relief from feelings of sorrow and sadness. If we allowed them to consume us and take over our lives then we would have absolutely no quality of life.
No one really close to me has died, but yeah we are all different and i'm not going say that the fact that ppl who use humour at funerals like you said proves that they didn't care but if the person i love most in this world died..i'd never be anything other than serious about it!I'd be too traumatised...but then maybe in 20 or 30 years it wld. seem different and i might be like you describe ppl being like in funerals!
You remember Live Aid im sure, it was touching, it was the first time the world had ever seen anything like it. Those people singing and dancing in the stands were also crying when they saw the starving. You cannot dispute that they cared.
Well, at that moment...but this is what my point is...it passes and if you really care then it doesn't pass. You can't turn it on and off like a tap, which is what my gripe about Bono is!
Perhaps you personally cduck have to feel engulfed in empathy, sympathy, sorrow and sadness in order to feel as though you are doing the right thing. Some people do, its like when something terrible happens it is appropriate to have a period of feeling extremely low and sad. On the other hand a lot of people have to create positivity out of a bad situation. It is also a defence mechanism. We all work differently. If this makes sense.
Well i just don't like being a fraud and saying i care about ppl starving or whatever one minute then lightin' up a joint the next!
Basically, i think ppl only do it 'cause if you don't you're put under a lot of pressure by ppl who do say it...hypocritically!
