Im actually white myself, but i pretty much lived with a black family for 4 years when i was younger, and i noticed that alot of black children are almost sheltered from white people. They dont have contact with white people, they dont talk about white people, they dont even watch a tv show that has a white person in it. And im not saying that they do that becuz they are racist, im just saying thats how they do things i guess. And i think when the kids get older, after not being exposed to white ppl hardly at all they tend to think of them differently and favor theyre own race over white ppl, causing them to start thinking all whites are racist, but not really knowing. This could also go the same with a white family too but, it seems black people tend to do things that involve theyre own race most of the time.

I'm white and have a black uncle. I live in a state that is predominantly white republican (pray for me) and I haven't ever noticed much racism. But maybe that's just because I grew up with and uncle that was black and two uncles that were gay. I'm a very tolerant and accepting person.

you could be describing any race or community group - people naturally resource within their own group,...

what we've gotta do is get everyone out of their comfort zone and get everyone learning from each other - maybe then we'll realise that we're actuall all pretty bloody similar (things we value, things we want)

we only fear other groups because we don't know or understand them

power to the people y'all - and I mean ALL the people!

We should have a huge orgy. My friends and I have found out that they really bring people together.

I grew up around alot of black people. When my mom finally divorced my birth father when I was ten we moved about 2 hours away from all of our family. My mom went to work at a sewing factory shortly after that and the first person there that made a point to befriend her was a black lady named Mary. Mary had a six month old little boy and I began to babysit for her on the weekend and during the summer. It was really not that big of a deal for us. Mary has always been like a second mother to me.

Two days before I got married the first time my mother got hurt at work and ended up in the hospital. Mary was the one who took me around the few days before my wedding to get all the running around done. Mary took me out to eat the day I got married . We were big buddies.

My best friend was Mary's neice Bev. Of course most of you that know me know that Bev was killed three years ago but I am still in very close contact with her family. WE've always associated with other races and never really had a problem with it. I see everyone as being the same on the inside no matter what the color was on the outside.

y'all sound like a v.friendly bunch

is true though - if we all just f**k each other until we're all the same shade of grey then we only be able to hate people for the assholes they truly are - much more democratic!

I came from a very loving, tolerant family. I now have a group of friends that are also very loving and tolerant. We tend to get very touchy and comfortable around each other and that bothers people. At least I've been told our antics trouble them, but they just need to loosen up. Be themselves. Don't judge by skin colour or sexual orientation. Personality is all where it's at!

This doesn't apply to all blacks, I'm sure, as it doesn't to all whites...but if they 'made' these kids live like this, then perhaps they did it for JUST that reason - in the hope that they would 'prefer' their own kind as they grew older...who knows, it may work, it may backfire - you know, curiosity of the unknown?

I'm minority and grew up in a blue collar predominantly polish neighborhood in Massachusetts. I got discriminated against a lot as a kid - not allowed over kids houses in the neighborhood etc. When I was in sixth grade I started hanging around latino kids at school a bit and then by junior high it was almost all latino kids. My experience was that they watched a lot of tv like everybody else. So just by that they got to know white culture pretty well as it's very well represented in many different forms on tv (not all of course).
The white kids I grew up with rejected latino kids as if they were something lower as human beings. I just remember when the first latino kid moved to the neighborhood and came riding over with his sister to say hi to a bunch of us who were standing around. One if the white kids said, "here come the spics" and another one said, "yup." It was accepted among them all - this view.
I remember feeling ashamed for three reasons : one because I knew the new kids heard them and you could see it on their faces; two because something about it just stung and felt really awful I couldn't explain it but it did; and three it was the first time I looked around and wondered what they were saying about me and my family when I wasn't around.
It was like the white kids I grew up with were just taught that less than white is not quite right and to always be aware of that. I never saw that kind of thing in the latino culture although there were some just plain hate filled people same as all races.
but that was different. they didn't have the sense to try and it seems the imagination to question it.
Of course I know not all white people are like that. but it did stick with me.

I don't know. I think people are people.

you are going to be shaped by what you come up against in life. you can't let childhood memories effect you that much it just doesn't make sense. I say let go of the past and just b who you are now.

But what do I know?

you can get the boot!!!
