Layne Stacey from Alice In Chains. He is just such an amazing singer keeping that raw power vocal style while still hitting those high notes like in "Man in the Box" tottaly blows be away.

not to be picky..but his name was Layne Staley, and he died of a heroin/cocaine overdose in 2002. and yes he was an awesome singer. i can't believe no one has mentioned Geoff Tate of Queensryche. not exactly "metal" but he has an absolutely incredible voice.

And Serj, all wonderful voices. There are so many other ones out there too that I

The best voice in rock EVER - Freddie Mercury
The best voice in current rock, specifically in Industrial Metal - Till Lindemann - the man has both edge and tenderness, what a combination!
Bruce Dickinson a very close 2nd, not quite so raw and I can't call to mind anything particularly gentle about Iron Maiden, not to compare with Ohne Dich anyway...

Ozzy?

Ozzy was always known for a very thin voice with extremely little range.

I can't believe that anyone would ever, ever, EVER put him above the likes of Dickinson, Halford, and Gillian on a best vocalists list
