Sharon del Adel the lead singer of Within Temptation is very good especially in there album Silent Force. Though you could als look into the vocal talents of Trivium and Bullet for my valentine, sharp words that give tempo to songs.

Indie is also a shout with Kele from Bloc Party sounding so good.

So my final answer, there are too many styles and good vocalists to decide a best.

Too Right!

Her voice is really whiney, annoyingly so.

I don't think it's whiney. We must have different views on what a whiney voice sounds like.

Blimey this is a tricky one. Also Rock is a kinda huge tree with many branches.

I adore chris cornell's voice. He sings almost effortlessly but has a sexy drawl.

Janet said Robert Plant, if any of you ever saw him live you would have to agree with her. He is a fantastic live vocalist and tbh recordings do not do him justice.

David Draiman is also fantastic live and i really fancy him

I also think Chino Merino frm the Deftones has a wonderful voice, but i have some good memories of listening to him sing during an awesome sunset at Download - but it could have been the weed

chino! I forgot about him...yeah he's got a real cool voice, it's so unique

Well constantly sounding like your about to die, in every single song to me constitutes whineyness.

Anything Emo is also very whiney. I mean how many times can the singer of an emo band loose a girlfriend in the course of writing an album?

I think he has the best classical voice, i mean as a vocalist he is impecable. But i still prefer Plant's
