I think streetlight manifesto is a good ska band one of the best I've heard but I think my best pick would be Ska-P
from spain they are so great and if you havent listend to them yet I sudgest you do.
But yeah SLM is a good band agreed, not the best to my opinion but whatever it depends what kind of ska you like you know.

i think we need more ill-defined music genres for bands not to fit into

oh and the specials.

Don't listen to much now.

But used to love The Specials, Bad Manners, Madness, Selecter, and a couple of Bodysnatchers stuff.

Seen all of them live (apart from Bodysnatchers)

1st Generation: Toots and the Maytals inflenced many bands including Sublime. Listen to the song 54-46 That's My Number originally written by the Toots and the Maytels released in 1968. The Skatalites, Desmond Dekker, Dandy Livingstone, and the Upsetters. There are many others on the Trojan record label including early influences of Bob Marley.

2nd Generation: The Specials, Madness, Toasters, Dance Hall Crashers

3rd Generation (my favourite):

10. Voodoo Glow Skulls (punk/ska)
9. Operation Ivy (more of a punk band)
8. Sublime
7. Big D and the Kids Table
6. Mustard Plug
5. The Mad Caddies
4. Fishbone
3. Reel Big Fish
2. Mighty Mighty Bosstones (they are back!!!)
1. Streetlight Manifesto (most energetic I've heard)

Wow!!! The DANCE HALL CRASHERS are 2nd generation? The style seems so much more modern than most of the bands during that time.

The Dance Hall Crashers are definately more 3rd Generation. I don't know why I said second.

I got to see Streetlight Manifesto last Monday at Tremont in Charlotte, NC. They are effing great live. SLM is an awesome band. I would suggest to anyone into ska to go see them live.

I've got tickets to see the Bosstones at Lupo's in Rhode Island on 12/31/07. Hometown throwdown sold out 5 shows in 2 minutes! Bosstones are Back!!!!

i don't really know if i can pick a best ska band ever.

all i know is that my favorite bands right now in this genre would have to be Big D & the Kids Table or Operation Ivy. both bands are rad as hell.

if you asked my mom this question, she'd probably tell you No Doubt or Reel Big Fish...so i have no clue.

she said, "tell them to look up. tell them to remember the stars. tell them to remember hope. we have hope."

YEa superman by goldfinger is awesome. But i think That any of tomas kalnoky's bands
(gimp, streetlight, and catch 22) are the best. but mustard plug, the mighty mighty
bosstones and less than jake are good too
