Have you ever started reading a series of books in the middle of it, and just had to find the others to read them all? Or have you ever gone through a period of time where you find yourself interested in a specific theme in books, such as tales dealing with vampires or such? I know have, currently on a vampire kick, and was wondering what ones everyone could suggest? At Christmas I received "dark Demon" by Christine Feehan and unbeknowst to the person who got it for me, it was like book 13, so now I am curious about the others, before and after...anyone else go through this?

I read every single book by Anne Rice, thats the only Vampire series I have read. I like series books too, but never read any by that author, will have to check that out.

I never read a book in the middle of a series! I always start at the beginning.

I read a lot of fantasy stuff, and for most of them, you HAVE to start at the beginning, or you'll miss lots of important points and confuse yourself!

I always like to have complete series anyway I'll buy a complete set straight away, just on the off chance I'll like it.

No, i NEVER start reading a series in the middel, NEVER. I refuse to watch shows on TV because i havnt seen the first episodes, its so hard to understand eveything thats going on.As for themes i prefere sci-fi, i buy all of my books second hand so i just get any that look interesting.Spending fifty cents on a book is mutch more apeeling to me then spending $13+, it would get very expensive. For the price of one new book i can buy twenty six used(alot in VERY good condition)

Very true...and I don't normally either start in the middle, but at least this one, pretty much stood on its own, even though I was left with a few questions. That is a great idea on how to get various books....Most of the time, I get mine from the library....

So very true....the person was trying to get something they thought I would like, not realizing it, and the book itself doesn't state that is volume 13 of a series, it was only when I looked it up on amazon.com that I discovered it was volume 13, so in a sense the book stood up on its own with a few unanswered questions.

I think I started reading Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire novel series in the middle on accident. They're all fantastic books. Go read them.

I read a book called "Black Genesis" which was the 2nd in a series called "Mission Earth" by L Ron Hubbard, so i went and found the other 9, it took me years as they were not longer being printed, the newest one i have is from the 90's sometime.

It's a shame that they seemed to have reprinted after bringing out Battlefield Earth again so now they are very easy to get

If you like Chicken Soup-type books, you’ll love “The Doctor’s Bag – A Sentimental Journey” by John Schlarbaum– author of “Aging Gracefully Together – A Story of Love & Marriage”.

You won’t be disappointed! Enjoy!

Here’s a review from The Midwest Book Review:

The Doctor's Bag: A Sentimental Journey is the heartwarming tale of the life of Thomas Sterling and his son Robert. Readers will become enthralled with The Doctor's Bag as the intimate story between father and son unfolds, giving new meaning to the actual doctor's bag itself. As the doctor's bag acts as the metaphor between healing and pain from year to year, The Doctor's Bag leaves the reader with an enlightening message of life, love and hope. The Doctor's Bag is strongly recommended to the general reader and those searching for a gentle, touching, and life changing read.

I've had it happen to me a few times where I read a book and then realize afterwards that it wasn't the first in the series. So, of course I have to go find the first book and read the rest of them. As for a good vampire series, The Noble Dead Saga is perhaps one of my favorite.

Alot of my favourite authors right now are writers who's books I got the most recent novel, then went back to read everything they had ever written. (James Rollins, Steve Berry, Elizabeth Peters, etc.)
