My computer has recently started mucking me around and I wondered if anyone in the TFS community can shed some light on it.

1) When I close Windows Live Mesenger, the task manager says that it is still using up around 90% CPU usage.
2) Internet seems to be running very very slow, but the rest of the computers in my house are running as normal, and quite high.
3) It seems to be very loud, this could have something to do with the CPU usage?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Try a different browser. If your system is still slow. Try Internet explorer with no addons. Failing that use msconfig and perform a clean boot.

90% CPU on just messenger live? Do you have a spyware blocker on your computer? I had a similar problem a few years ago b/c of syware. There are a few free anti-spyware programs out there, that aren't the greatest but much better than none at all, and might be able to remove a bunch of what you may have on your computer.

I have got Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 but I'm not to sure if this is also and anti-spyware thing?

Its booting up with only the bare essentials running. The application that you use to affect this is "msconfig".Its a customizable action. Safe mode carries it even further by using only basic drivers.
