Language evolves, we could always be like the French and be almost paranoid about changes in language - or we can just accept that things change over time - at one time Shakespeare would have been talking normal english.
So American speak is filtering into UK language - so what.

A fairy cake is just the british term for the same thing, in the same way that you call that small breed of penguins 'Fairy Penguins'.

Either way, Calling a 1000 million a billion may be correct in American English it is NOT correct in English.
