Hey, don't believe Wikipedia, believe your own ears. You're the one bitching about the BBC using the short scale

I'm the one who's frustrated that the BBC has adopted the American term rather than the British one.

They - and your own government - adopted it 15 years before you were born.

Besides, short scale isn't American. It's French. That might make you even more upset, though.

That's incorrect.

According to your government, and your ma** media, a billion means 1,000,000,000.

My friend has just told me that in America, a billion has 9 zeros, yet in Britain, a billion has 12 zeros.

Is that true?

According to the people it is a billion billion.

According to mathematics it is a billion billion.

The London Times Style Guide officially defines a billion as 1,000,000,000 as well.

ok, i've been looking around,
as far as i can figure the old scale is still used academically in the UK, as in its thought in university and school. wheteher officially or just widely i can't determine.

which surely can't be true because the national treasure and government use the 'US' system...which is french, so no crazy americanisation anyway.
and also any time you watch the news a nd they say billion, the do certainly mean a thousand million.

how confusing.

For f**ks sake.

JMO - grow up, your incessant use of the word c**t is not really nice.

You want to make every British person use 'British' words, and then you portray us to have that attitude.

Sounds like you are on your own there.

Oh, and hooray for American terms - I couldn't get through the day without calling Sel a douchebag!!!

If there is a storm there.... chase it!
