Just been watching a program on Nat Geo Wild, called "The Year of the Storm" link [natgeotv.com] A bit of an eye opener, to say the least, but to me, not a surpising one. Why does this sort of thing get buried in the back of the news? As anyone who has ever watched a disaster movie knows this sort of thing is usually suppressed "to avoid panic", though frankly I doubt that is the only reason. Why do I say this is a religious thread? Because it fits in with "The Signs of the Times. What did I learn from the program? Well for one thing there are two worse gasses than CO2 for causing a greenhouse effect. Methane is apparently 20 times more "powerful" in global warming. What is it's major source? Well apparently, apart from the digestive systems of cattle, and those humans who eat too many baked beans the largest source is the ever thawing permafrost, which apparently holds very large quantities of the gas. The next most powerful is, believe it or not (I do) water vapour. The major source of that is the oceans. I ave wondered for years now about global warming and it's connection with God's purposes. According to the account in Genesis, in it's original design the earth had a water mantle, with some scientists believe would most likely have been in the thermosphere. That would also have given us a warmer and more even climate, with less dramatic seasonal changes except in the extreme north and south. The bible promises that, not only will man be returned to the original plan in God's own time, but so will the planet. Could global warming be a part of that process? I have often felt that it could, and this program sort of reinforced that theory because of the increase in water vapour in the atmosphere that is apparently the cause of much of the extreme global weather. Sounds odd water being the cause of a drought, but it made sense. Water causing floods is more "obvious". If you can get to watch this program please do. Thoughts please. | |||||||

| xLETHAL_VIXENx Logical Alien ![]() Your pants, United States (gen | #2 All has happened before and shall happen again. Meaning, these things take place to happen every couple hundred, thousand, or millions of years. I don't see it as signs of anything other than the world is getting 'ready' to either terraform itself again or it's time for another iceage (same?). It's all natural and it's all happened before, our ancestors survived it, I'm sure most of us will to. Of course the bible promises disaster, they've seen it before and if you're smart enough you'll know that all has happened before and will happen again. | ||||||
