We've heard of school shootings happening in colleges and high schools, but third grade? They say the firearm discharge accidentally.

Seriously... WTF is wrong with some of these gun owners these days? Guns have been in America as long as its been the United States... And just recently the problem has become so severe... Keep tabs on your kids and keep tabs on your guns... I dont have kids, so I cant comment on it being easy to keep tabs on them... But its not hard to keep your guns away from them.

I know about three friends who's parents keep guns on a rack instead of locked away. It's unnerving as there are so many things that can go wrong.

Safe gun handling used to be taught in many schools. Some schools even had rifle teams and competed. Then somewhere along the line, "civilisation" closed down shooting ranges and built on land that was once hunting and fishing grounds. No one taught kids anymore. That was considered "politically incorrect".
So now you have adults who don't know how to handle guns raising kids who are not being taught how to handle guns.

Our 'safe gun handling' was basically not to touch dad's guns, which were/are stored in an unlocked closet. We were told not to touch them and none of us ever did. Simple as that.

As we got older, we were taught to shoot, those of us who wanted to. I've always had a great respect for guns and try to keep my skills sharp. Also, I love the smell of a smoking gun. True that!

I can't believe that parents would even own a gun if their children were able to access it.
It's unnerving that a child so young would be so uneducated by his or her parents of the dangers of guns.

That IS disturbing but children are able to access all kinds of dangerous things.

It's up to the parents to educate them on what they can and cannot touch. Looking back, it seemed so simple. Dad and mom said no - so no it was, don't touch dad's guns. There was never an issue or incident, just respect.

I guess those days are gone and they weren't so long ago. sigh

Or there's just no reason to hear of all the parents that teach this effectively and whose kids don't accidentally shoot someone.

There used to be a lot more farm kids. Most all farm kids knew there way around a gun. Now, we have mostly city kids. Too many are dumber'n a box of post holes and can't point to the USA on an unmarked map of the world.

Actually, I think it's supposed to be us country kids that can't point to america on an unmarked map of the world. The city kids don't know what to do with jumper cables.

Funny you should say that. My friends and I always used to wonder why some people didn't know the simplest things or rather, pratical things, stuff that involve hard labor or getting your hands dirty, nowadays its all about hiring someone to get it done for you. . From parking your car to washing you laundry, pretty soon they'll be wiping our asses for us, oh wait, they invented that already..ugh.
