Alex Salmond is getting a lot of coverage, it's really interesting how pretty much his entire argument is the same 20 years later.

I guess he'd say that his argument has always been fundamentally sound, so it doesn't need to change. The issues are the same, and the desired outcome is the same.... why should argument, at its basic level vary..?

The debate and political climate has changed so much. The argument made more sense in 1992 than 2012 imo, in 2012 Alex Salmond is First Minister if the Scottish Parliament, not leader of a tiny minority party trying to blame everything on the Tories.

Charles Kennedy (Chancellor of my University incidentally) is on TV. Looking charming as ever.

I agree the political climate has changed, and it is undoubtedly true that the existence of a Scottish Parliament is something that was not in existence in 1992, but the basic case... for an independent Scotland..... is exactly the same, and the reasons for wanting it are fundamentally no different now than they were then.

Glad to hear Charles Kennedy is looking well. Quite how serious his drinking problems were is anybody's guess. His career suffered after Paxman made his comments and started a bandwagon against him. Glad if all that is behind him now.
