31/F/Albuquerque Area, New Mexico Join Date: Apr 2008 | I just learned how to knit this winter. I friend showed me one night, and I made a small sample. Then I picked up a couple books and went from there. I took a class, but that was mostly a stitch 'n bitch with my sewing friends.
I'm in the middle of a handbag right now. I've made one other bag, but it was for a class, and not really "me".
I sew for extra $, but my knitting is not good enough to charge for, and I think I'll keep it as a hobby. Moving in to the realm of making $ changes the nature of the enjoyment. It's not bad, just different
I find needle crafts, are starting to gain popularity, with a younger crowd. Fashion trends have been leaning more the funky and individual. And Project Runway has gotten a new "audience" interested in being able to make your own fashion. Hand knitted things can be "cool" and I think as a craft encouraged.
