I know only a few words in french.

To learn perfect english you need to first grasp the general way the language is used. Using "I`m" or even "Im" is fine as both are understood as I am.

Really the majority here do not speak perfect english but most try to get some basics right.

If you can be understood and do not make any glaring mistakes that is an accomplishment, my english is far from perfect but that never bothers me.
