I was talking to someone a while back about this thing and i couldnt find it anywhere, then outta no where it popped up again so here are some things about austin

1. Its pronounced "AWS-TIN". It doesn't matter how they say it in other places

2. Forget the traffic rules you have learned else where. Austin has its own set of traffic rules. There is no book about them. All you can do is hope you'll survive to learn them!

3. All directions start with "Go down Mopac......cuz you don't want to get on I-35" No one knows for sure what "Mopac" means unless you live here.

4. Burnet Road, Braker Lane, and Lamar Blvd. have no beginning and no end.

5. The 8:00 am rush hour is from 6:30 am to 9:30 am. The 5:00 pm rush hour is from 3:30 pm to 7:15 pm. Friday's rush hour starts on Thursday morning

6. If you actually stop at a yellow light, then you cannot be from Austin. You may only apply your brakes when the end of a yellow lights and the beginning of the red light create a burnt-orange hue. This is Longhorn Country, after all.

7. If you like being an individual, don't even think about working for Dell. Granted, they have great benefits, but are you willing to sell your soul for them?????

8. 98% of ppl in a 200 miles radius work for Dell. When someone says "Micheal Dell", Dell employees are trained to face
Round Rock, hit their knees, put their faces to the ground, weep, and rock back and forth

9. If moisture is detemined to be rain, and not sweat, all traffic must immediatly come to a halt, ditto for a flat tire 3 lanes over and a female UT student applying eye shadow across the street.

10. DO NOT attempt to access any road after an apocalyptic event like snow, SXSW (South By Southwest music convention) construction on I-35 or 183, this is a way of life, you just have to get over it.

11. Manchaca is pronounced "MAN-shack"

12. Manor is pronounced "MAY-ner"

13. DON'T pronounce the "E" at the end of Guadalupe. It's "Gwada-LOOP" and we like it that way!!

14. Burnet Road is pronounced "Burn-IT" NOT "Burn-ET"

15. Del Valle is pronouced Dell Valley

16. Stay away from the Congress Ave. bridge at sundown if you do not like the thought of bats and um.....them crapping on you (since we have the largest Tail Bat population in the U.S.)

17. And yes, we ALL know that there is a man wearing a lace dress and a tiara on Congress Ave. His name is Leslie and he probably makes more $ than you do (surely you have a homeless, celebrity drag queen that likes to run for mayor where you live, too, right???)

****and you wonder why there are so many "Keep Austin Weird" bumper stickers, right?

Almost everywhere in TX has it's funny little quirks. I used to live in the panhandle and man, we had the "Lubbock Lights" similar to Roswell and people were all over that. I think its still a load of poo but it's home...therefor I love it!

If it wasn't for Austin, I definitely wouldn't live in Texas.
