Quote:
Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is dead at 66, CBS News has confirmed.

The legendary musician suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night. He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and put on life support, reports TMZ.

This sucks. I am legitimately bummed over this....I liked Tom Petty a lot.

Reports have been updated. He's not dead yet.

Though he's in very bad condition in the hospital.

This is what I feel is the terrible part for his family. And then a media circus on top of it.

I really love a lot of his music. It's a sad day.

It seems to be one of those Mark Twain moments.

Not so much exaggerated, as misunderstood and a rush to be breaking news.

Either way, his manager has now confirmed he has passed.

I feel so bad for his family. To be in that place having to make decisions and wait is hell, to have to do it with the media f***ing things up is just cruel.

The bad part of celebrity lives. The family doesn't get time to truly grasp what happened before they have to tell the whole world.

Straight up listening to his music and drinking a few for him. Rest easy Tom, you won't be forgotten.

How do we determine which news is fake when two credible sources present contradictory reports?

And I am sorry he is dead.

Agree with E's comment above.

In addition to that, it seems that news is too swiftly put on the air because of the intense competition to get a scoop in a world where communications are almost instantaneous. There seems to be no room for journalists or news agencies to stop, pause, take a breath and check the facts before going live with a story because if they do, they risk somebody else will getting in ahead of them.

I can't say I was a fan of Tom Petty, but I do like the Travelling Wilburys stuff that I've heard. I'm sure he was an immensely talented man.

I never a big fan of tom's music, but I did like to listen to his music on talk shows must be close or over 40 years. I don't remember exactly, when he started in 70's.

I remember see him on " the david letterman show " and " the tonight show ". he had to started on one of the shows, or merv griffin or Diana shores shows. I grew up watching them , when I was a teenager.

tom had a good country singing voice that I liked than most country singers these days. I found tom was a likeable guy, and I didn't mind hearing his songs for the few minutes that he was performing on a talk show.

A great talent and a great loss to us all. He will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, Tom. <3
