I am going to watch Blazing Saddles again, today, in honor of him.

He had the kind of lovely face that makes you smile as soon as you see it.

I loved Stir Crazy. Skip Donahue was a brilliant character. Also loved the movie where he and Richard Pryor played a blind man and a deaf man, each of whom relied on the other to be their ears / eyes. Hilarious.

2016 has been a heck of a year for deaths of people who have entertained us. he is at peace now and I'm sure Gene's family will treasure his memory, as we who enjoyed his life's work will too.

There was a really specific charm, only he had.
It kind of reminds me of Bill Murray, how he seems like you can just relax and talk to him. But at the same time, he can throw you off any minute.

I remember watching Willy Wonka constantly as a kid. I know he wasn't doing much lately, but it still upsets me a little. At least he isn't suffering, I guess

I'll bet I seen Blazing Saddles a couple of dozen times at the drive in theatre when it first came out. It was and still is my oldest brother's favorite movie and he was the driver . So every weekend, there we were, watching it on that huge screen with the speaker hooked to the driver side door window. We would get home and dad would ask what we had done , my bro would tell him about one of the many different 'plots' each time. My dad never had a clue it was the same movie over and over and again and again ,,,

I found this guestbook where , if a person is inclined , they can post condolences

Unforgettable as Willy Wonka, 100 times better than Johnny Depp was.
He's gone to that great film studio in the sky.
What a gent!
