Look for advertisers. People like to go to many forums. It would have to be something very special to pay for it.

There are millions of forums that people can use for free. I seriously doubt anyone will pay for added features. Your best bet would be to include ads on your forum.

If I had to pay for a forum I might consider, I dunno, reading a book or something. I'm poor and even if I wasn't I'd probably still be cheap...

you wont get many who would be willing to pay to use a forum. but you could do what some do, and offer extra features to those who are willing to donate to help keep the site running. those extra features could be something like more picture upload space than regular members get, bigger avatars than the regulars or different themes available to them. other than that you can put ads on your site to make money and help keep it going.

I don't recommend starting a forum solely for making money off of itself. You have to be interested and passionate about your forum and then when people see that enthusiasm behind it, they would be much more willing to join. There are a lot of ways to advertise the forum:
1)Google adsense/Yahoo ads
2)Text links
3)Sponsor ads
4)My space
5)Affiliate networks
6)Contests (example: the person with the most posts wins a prize, points, etc).

But don't oversell. No serious forum user wants to waist time sifting through ads just to share opinions with like minded people

I use forums as a workplace. I make good money doing it to. I didn't know this one existed until today.
