I just heard a report on the radio that said here in the UK alone we throw away £10bn worth of good food a year. Because of sell-by and use-by dates. 4.5 million apples a day are binned due to people being scared to eat them because they pass their use-by date.

It's shocking when you think people are starving in some places.

Do people of the Western, developed world have any moral obligation to help or even share their wealth the the poorer people in the Third World? Should we do more or do you think we do enough already?

Discuss.

I think we probably do enough already and how ever much is given it is still never enough. We have our own problems here at home.

I think it is up to each person and their heart. The percent of the average persons income that is actually given to help others shows were people hearts truly are. The numbers don't lie.

We see and hear and see so many people feel bad about hunger or other social issues yet never lift a finger to do anything about them at all.

So how much do you give? Think about it. It's not what you say here that shows your heart, it is what you are actually doing about the problem.

Well we've raped and blundered the third world for over 300 years now, I think it's time we gave something back.

to share is benificial.
to share knowledge is learned.
to have knowledge is wisdom.
Wisdom is knowing what to do with knowledge.

My veiw is like Aristotle's cave allegory-
Those of us who are educated and enlightend (reached the truth in some way) have a duty to society so go back and help others who have not been educated or enlightend.

This had to do with people as a whole > individual philosphy at the time, but I think it reigns true. Society will run better when all it's members are smarter, richer, healthier and are educated and able to make a difference in their communities.

People who are more fortunate wether in education, resources, or money have a duty to try to help those who do not have these things.

I think we should try and pass on valuble knowledge we have learnt to help with agriculture, medicine and education. I don't think throwing money at third world countries is always the answer, some of the goverments line their own pockets and the people see no benifits. Knowledge is power.
