My grandmom (age 74) lives in a "mother-in-law" apartment in our house, and ever since she's had her hernia surgery in October of 2007, my aunt Jenn has been with her 2-3 times a week and TOTALLY babies my grandmom which makes her act like a spoiled child.

No one likes talking to her (except Jenn of course) because all she does is talk about her pills, bodily functions, "pain", diet, sleep, bodily fluids, ect.
Nothing else. No joke.

So Jenn decided to go on a 10 day vacation a week and a half ago (she just came back Sunday).
And as soon as Jenn left, my grandmother went into full blown invald mode and started ailing about a cripling pain.

WHY? because her precious Jenn isn't here to baby the s*** out of her and treat her like a queen.

As soon as Jenn got back, she played it up more and she went to the doctors.
When the Dr. asked Jenn to ask my grandmom if she wanted to be admitted for "pain management" without missing a beat my grandmom answered "yes".
But they went home because they couldn't be admitted right away.

Then yesterday, she "fell". And was there for "an hour" before Jenn got here and found her. But you want to know what the hilarious thing is? Her phone is on a low table and was 2 feet away and within reach from where she "fell".
When asked why she didn't call someone, she said: "I dunno."

So after 3 hours of Jenn "monotoring" her she called 911 and now my grandmom is in the hospital.

And as soon as her a** was in the hospital bed, she was perky as ever.
She's totally playing it up!

GOD!!!! Errrg!

And you have no concept of the English language and seem to be still stuck in middle school mode.
Pity.

Some elderly people can be very sneaky. Gotta watch so they don't get away with things like a child of 2.

In my opinion, there are two main types of sick people, the ones who still try to do what they can and those who like to get people to do everything for them even though they can do some stuff.

It sounds like your Aunt babies your Grams and Grams laps it up and now she probably thinks she can't do anything or got too lazy and dependant to do anything.

When people get older, others should help them but still get them to do what they can so they can have some independence. Looks like your Aunt took that from your Grams and now Grams expects everyone to baby her too.

On the one hand, I understand your frustration because I've felt the same way about my grandmother (91) MANY times. Her issue is that she tries to do things that she probably shouldn't be trying and then gets hurt, but doesn't learn from this and repeats the process again. For example, "I was gardening outside...mowing the lawn...bringing laundry up from the basement, etc. etc. and I fell..."

On the other hand, it really seems tough to get old. My grandmother likes her independence but can't really have it anymore, and sometimes she gets lonely sitting at home without a means of transportation so as aggravated as I get with her sometimes I have to try to remain patient. We really do pay the most attention to her when she gets hurt or is sick, etc.

This isn't going to change. This is all I've heard about from mine since I can remember understanding language

A bad joke perhaps but...

You know you are getting old when it takes you longer to pack your meds than it does your make up.
