No, I hadn't heard that you were right around the corner! What newspaper or broadcasting station carried that story?

That question was directed at jmo, seeing as he lives in the city.

Obviously someone from Connecticut would have no idea what I'm talking about.

Obviously......... I'm surprised that, with all your worldly travels, you hadn't bumped into me! I'm not 'from' Connecticut. I just wound up living here.

Well the fire happened over the summer, so unless you just moved to Connecticut from Edinburgh, my above statement didn't apply to you.

Sheesh

Um, Yeah I was at T in the Park at the time. My mates dad is a fire-fighter who's colleague died in the fire. Not a pub I've ever been to but I think it was in the Gorgie area.

This price shocks me, to be honest. During the summer, me and the missus went to London to visit my family and for the first time, we took the sleeper train from Penzance to Paddington rather than drive. It was brilliant, and not unreasonably expensive, either. We rather liked the train service, getting a good night's sleep and waking up to a nice breakfast just before our destination.

I don't think I'd pay £1K+ to travel that way to Scotland...... flying must surely be cheaper..... but I'm sure it wouldn't be an entirely unpleasurable way to travel.

I can't help but think, if you buy a £25 rail card you would save £333.33 on that journey!

You could probably charter a small plane to get from Cornwall to Scotland for that price.

i don't seeing it being much cheaper.

remember this £1000 figure is only achieved if you buy the ticket there and then without any pre-booking and is for first class.
if you do the same for a flight in first class, it also is going to be ridiculously expensive.

and another point, no one has actually paid £1000 and i doubt anyone will.

Got a leaflet through my door this morning.
It said "People like You Vote bnp"
How did THEY know I'm an ignorant racist c***?!

The first and last legs of the journey don't even have 1st class seats though, it's like buying a 1st class ticket from Sheffield to London and being asked to move to carriage at Luton, would you be happy with that?

I pay £40 a week to travel to work on the bus, if someone I worked with and lived near me could pick me up in their car it would cost me less than half that, yet I have to put up with farts, loud ipods and miserable bus drivers and fellow passengers. Surely it should be cheaper

It should me. It costs me f*** all a week cus I don't go to my classes and just sit and be lazy and that.

Yeah, think about that the next time your tax comes off your income. It is going towards paying me to do sweet f*** all, shocking isn't it?

Not sure why I'm indignant, I'm getting free money.

I just know I'll be pissed off in five years time when I have a real job.

In the long run, at least you can read 'metro' on public transport.
