I have an lcd monitor that displays the desktop fine but goes blank after one second. I turn the monitor off and on and it displays the desktop for one second and then goes blank again. What could the problem be?. I tried a new cord and different computer.Monitor power button light does not indicate power save.

Try another monitor. If that one works, buy a new one.
If it happens with the test monitor, run your Anti virus. If that doesn't work, reload your OS.

If you got it for only 5, I'm not surprised it's not working. It was probably faulty to begin with.

There are some things you shouldn't buy cheaply, and computer equipment is one of them!

I would have spent the money elsewhere. It's giving me something to do right now anyhow. It really is a five dollar POS but I really hope it will turn into a five dollar YIPPIE

I'll keep asking around we will see. I think that 5 buck would have been better spent on a donut or 2 or 6

What happens if you disconnect the LCD monitor from the computer then turn it on? Do you see any kind of test pattern? I've heard that it could be the "back light" going out. Not a simple fix but cheaper than getting a new monitor.

Buyer beware from craigslist advertisements.
