Well, you should call the bank in regards to the transaction and have it canceled. It's been a long time since I worked at the bank but if they have not taken the money out of your account and you haven't canceled it, they still can. Which could leave you in deep s*** if you spend it.

If he has the transaction canceled, he'll still owe the money. He can't just have a free car because of a bank error

I know, but it would be funny. And technically, the money should have come out by now and if it hasn't, it would be the fault of the place where he purchased it.

What would be even funnier is if there was a clerical error and somebody entered the wrong account number into the records so that somebody else paid for his car.

Na, that would have been reversed very quickly.

It is a possibility that paperwork was lost, his account with the finance company could have been written down as paid for, and the company have been out 4500 and not been able to find out where.

And he'd still owe the money when they found out about it.

The smart thing to do is call the bank and potentially the person who sold the car and get the whole thing cleared up. You're never "off the hook" for the money,.

It wouldn't be funny if it was my account.

Well yea, if they figured it out.

I just know that some errors do get missed and are never found.

That's risky, cause if it ever gets found out you're responsible for it.

Oh yea, most definitely.

When I worked for the bank, 10k went missing between 2 tellers and there was no way to locate who lost it or stole it. They both got fired but no charges pressed and no indication of why they were fired on their record.
