I have a crap ear for producing m own music, I really do. I record guitars, bass and drums all myself (and even try singing sometimes) but when it comes to mixing the EQ's and effects for instruments I mess up majorly. I always produce music that sounds sort of empty, messy overlaps between instruments and stuff, compared to music you buy on a CD which (should) sound full, heavy, perfectly pbalanced.

Of course it's hard to describe in words, but does anyone know of any good tutorials or some standard settings for EQ's and stuff? I record metal to old jazz, basically all sorts of standard 4 piece band stuff. I'm using cubase SX for tweaking all these things and occasionally get OK-ish results but then try to apply the same things to other tracks and it all goes tits up! I dunno, any ideas?

So far practice is not getting me anywhere near perfect
