Also mice eat cheese and birds peck through milk bottle tops on the doorstep to drink the milk

Mice hate cheese: link [www.dailymail.co.uk]

There are still doorstep deliveries of calf food?

This is silly. Humans are omnivores. Several species are omnivores. Several more are carnivores. What's the purpose of your annoyance with eating animals? Do you think the other species will stop eating them if we do? I'm not saying that it's pretty to watch one being die to feed another, but it's the way of the world.

Would there be fewer vegans if animals that were used for food were raised in a happy healthy environment, and then when their time was up, they were gently and peacefully put to sleep before slaughter?

No, I do not think so, not many anyway - but I think there would be far fewer vegetarians.

Maybe the "humans are omnivores" thing is something we have to rethink: link [microbiology.suite101.com]

Plus, humans can be - and do - all sorts of things.

Apart from murdering innocent plants.

Will no one think of the plants?

IF plants ARE sentient then a Vegan lifestyle is less cruel and also if plants aren't sentient then a vegan lifestyle is also less cruel, less plants are consumed through vegan/plant based diets because magnitudes more plants are spent in feeding the animals yet to be slaughtered and in answer to why we dont forget animals and instead think about humans ...
1. above mentioned larger quantities of plants are wasted as they could used to address world hunger
2. it takes a fraction of the amount of water to produce the same yield of food with a plant based diet
3. the gains for human health are well documented, todays vegans are getting the vitamins and nutrients they need and its very easy to add what you require to your diet but omnivores cannot strip away the cholesterol and higher carcinogen content of their animal product laden diets (THUS.. cancer and stroke/heart disease, the biggest killers of humans in the developed world are vastly reduced)
4. consider the respect and rights that would be afforded to humans and lack of prejudice when we recognise the worth and moral significance of beings we previously considered only as products ..

I see nothing but benefits for humans and to top it off, the other vegans im friends with are not misanthropic at all.. they purchase fair trade products, contribute to charity and are all round, friendly, loving balanced people.

You do realise there is no world food shortage don't you?

The world produces enough food at the moment to happily feed everyone, distribution is the problem. Poverty, dumb ideology and even worse politics are killing people not lack of food.

absolutely, and we dont apply any of the other "ways of the wild" to our human society or ourselves- as a logistical matter it is utterly ridiculous to suggest that anyone, vegan or otherwise could prevent /remove the necessity for predators and prey ,maintaining the cycles of ecosystems in the wild - we have no say or control over the matter.
The animals we breed and genetically warp (we promote traits beneficial to us but painful and depleting to the animals) are another story completely,we are entirely responsible for their existence. if we were allowing the "ways of the wild" to govern our human ways then there would be no special schools, we would have left these individuals to die, as with all other disabled individuals (a deplorable option, i work with said individuals full time)

distribution is one of the problems, but also promoting animal agriculture as an efficient food source(in regions with large % of people suffering from starvation) presents a problem!

Not true, in regions where poverty is an issue, meat is concidered very expensive and is a luxury. Grains are the staple food source.
