Is it, in your opinion, possible that medicines percribd for children with ADD or ADHD a placebo?

If you take a medication LOOKING for reslts, you're ore likely to see them.
A mom who just put her son on said medication may be more apt to notice:
"HEY! Look! He's watching TV on the couch and not fidgeting!"

when the title sequence hasn't even ended.

What do you think?

I think drugs for ADHD are very much over used tbh. In my experience people who are actively trying to help their children try everything else before drugs and are acutely aware of what their children's behaviour is like so even if the drugs make a marginal difference they'll notice.

I just don't think that most kids have ADD/ADHD.

Being hyper is being a kid, imo.
Just because Billy didn't pay attention to algebra today doesn't make him have ADD.

No but then again the parents that really are aware of their children's behaviour in my experience are the parents with children who have ADHD/ADD.

That too. But there are a lot of kids put on the meds that really don't need it.

My Abnormal Psych teacher said that "ADD is America's latest excuse."

Which is partly true, although there are some kids who legitimately do have it.

I think it would be interesting to try kids on a placebo first before moving to the real meds. It would also be cool to take one placebo group and tell them what they are getting meds for and have another who is just administered it without explanation.

I am not a medical doctor but from what I have read, having a doctor in my family, personally knowing two medical doctors and listening to them talk, it had become my opinion that that medications are being overprescribed.

We are now a pill popping nation and we think it is okay because they are prescribed medications.

If someone is sad for a few days, they get antidepressants. If a child is hyper they take ritilan(sp).

I am of the mind that doctors are busy and see too many patients as well as other factors that is earier to give medications to people that to work long term with them.

With my doctors it is hard to get medications. I have to go for tests first and then get medications. I realize certain things are of a professional opinion. I mean if you have cancer, it shows up and we can see it. But certain illnesses you cannot see so it becomes the opinion of the doctor as to what you have. This is the case with mental illness.

I am not saying people should not take medications they have a purpose and I know I take them for my health problems. But we need to look at what is causing things and more often than not, fix the issues.

If I am hyper it does not mean I have ADD or ADHD.

Fact of the matter is, in today's world with all the advances - whatever you feel is impeding your psyche
or social growth (or that of your kids), there's a medical solution, or medicine to take, to make it more
bearable, to make the person more 'norm'. That's really weird when you think about it, because also so many strive to be different. No pleasing people.

I myself am diagnosed by ADHD and for a lot of Elementary School, I was prescribed Ritalin. I admit, it made me more focused, but it also made me feel tired and it made me feel self-conscious about myself. I had to leave my classroom at about 11:15 am to go to the office to take it. And of course, the teachers felt like they had to remind me every day, which was annoying as hell. All I can say is that for the most part, the meds don't help at all.
