I do.
I suffer from an anxiety disorder and depression....
And I smoke to "fix my problems"
I smoke 2 packs a day, and I know it's terrible for me health, but I can't live without it.
I don't even WANT to quit....
It would be nice if companies could manufacture a safer cigarette or if I could learn to manage the habit in moderation.
I know many sensible people whom allow themselves one to three ciggies a day but they are able to stop at that.

I did use it as a crutch for my issues, but this is my 5th day going with out a smoke, I'm irritable and anxious.
I will tell you how I'm doing when it's been two weeks... If I do make it.
Good luck, Stigma! I had, at one point quit for about five months and I found that mentholated gum helped alot. I tricked my brain by going to my regular smoking spot and chewing a piece of gum until it lost its flavour.

They say smoking can actually help heighten anxiety & depression, not just the other way around.
I think that's what lilbear meant by 'circle of futility.' The poison is the cure and it goes in a viscious circle. =L

Just wondering if anyone else here, suffering from mental illness of any sort, tend to find cigarettes to be a crutch that helps them relax or pull themselves together and find themselves going through a pack to two packs a day.
I'm also wondering if anyone has been able to overcome the addiction despite. During times where I'm trying to relieve stress or anxiety I find it monstrously hard to refrain from smoking because the stress of denying myself a nicotine fix piles unecessarily ontop of the stress that is already there that I'm trying to overcome.
Yeah, man. I was diagnosed with several mental disorders at a young age and my folks kept me doped up on meds to manage it. I only got off of em' when I came of age 22 and was kicked off their medical insurance. So I quit cold turkey on the meds cuz of money. Ever since I've been a smoker. You're not alone, mang. I'm addicted and I don't wanna quit either. But I also won't throw myself at a hospital when the consequences of smoking manifest. It just isn't fair for the tax payers to help alleviate something I knowingly walked into. But that's just a personal preference of mine.
