Okay i will be the opposing side.

But let me say...if the health care reform can answer all my questions and worries, then im all for it. Till then...I will continue to support private.
__________ These are just ramblings...I haven't thought them out completely
A)Cancer patients - this would include those brought lung and throat cancer due to smoking for many years. This would also include patients who got skin cancer due to years of tanning bed damage.
--I'm not a heartless soul, but what about these patients that could have prevented it. Cancer is cancer at the end of the day....health care costs will drive up (if those that smoke continue to smoke because they know they will be covered by health insurance should their be a need). Do I really want to pay taxes for those that bring it on themselves. I will pay for my fair share...but why can't i choose who to pay it for (should i pay for the years of tanning damage or should i pay for the the little kid that truly didn't do anything to deserve it?)
B)We already have a shortage of blood and organ donors...we spend so much money on getting the patient proper health care, but they still die because we don't have a heart, lungs etc for them.
C)What about preventive diseases, cancer due to tanning, smoking, obesity?
D)I just don't think we have enough money to fuel the nations health care...a lot of people can't even afford to pay their taxes...now add health insurance in their ( and i bet its going to be one of our largest taxes). Untill it picks up, will it put the government into a bigger deficit?
However, with a private system, what most people don't realize, is that you already are paying for those who could have prevented it, usually while leaving the poor little kid who did nothing out in the cold.
Think about it really. Most who can afford insurance are not those who work minimum wage. So, okay, maybe not the little kid, but, let's say an adult, who has worked hard their whole life, but can't afford proper medical care because they got some odd thing that couldn't have been prevented like breast or testicular cancer. Right, so, now they can't afford to get it taken care of, because they couldn't afford it in the first place, and now their rates would mostly likely be more than double because of it.
In the mean time, your paying into a policy, and those who can afford will do things like smoke, and go tanning, where that other person can't afford to do those things. Not that they don't want to, they might, but they just can't afford that luxury.
It would be kind of dense to think that your premium is just being held for you in some kind of account and is there so that you have it when you need it. It's not, it's going to the paychecks of the employees working for the insurance company. It's also going to cover the expenses of those who are getting treated for whatever reason who are also under your HMO. And, when you, as a middle class worker get sick, you premiums go up, while those who have the most tend to get their treatment with no problem at all and with no raise, because they have high powered lawyers, and the insurance companies don't want to take them on.
That's why I say, take what you would be paying in premiums, put it in a interest bearing savings account every month, and let it grow. When you need health care, the money should be there.
