Is there anybody in the Somerset/Wiltshire area that knows of somewhere to get reasonably priced new or secondhand camping equipment? All suggestions gratefully received.

Ebay: good idea. Allsorts, really. We've got very little so I've got a list and it's growing. We've got some basics but electric hook-up cables and other technical stuff is on the list.

ahhh we don't bother with electric hook ups... I either use electric from the car (for air beds) or just gas to hook and battery operated thing/hand wound lights.

I've got to. With us, two kids and a dog, it's chaos and I need to see what kind of mayhem's going on. Last time we had no light, David had one to many, tripped up on the way in and went straight through the back of the tent, taking a plastic shelf unit of tinned food with him.

The problem is meeting like-minded people wherever you're staying. Suddenly it's 'let's see how many pisswits we can fit in one tent'. It's dangerously sociable.

I don't know about the UK but here in the USA we have Army Surplus stores that sell secondhand camping supplies no longer used by the military ... might try googling those

We'd also be grateful for any information on canvas waterproofing products available in the UK as the tent is a few years old and may need a coat. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks, Trillian. We bought it off people who had looked after it very well and set it up last sunday. It's all intact but it's 14 years old and we thought it could do with a reinforcement. As it's Glasto weekend and heavy rain is forecast down here (South-West) we thought we'd play safe.
