Kelli.....why don't you put the web address of your blog site in your signature on here? It's almost an automatic guarantee of extra visitors to your site. You can add a signature to your profile on here by going to "Edit profile".

if there are no links to your site from other websites, then no one has any way of knowing about your blog or getting to it. So just make sure you have links to your blog places. You can post comments in news stories that relate to your blog subject, and reference one of your blog posts, kind of like, "I think yada yada yada, and you should read what so and so has to say about this at [link to a relevant blog post]." You "controversial posts" idea could work for that. It helps if the news story you are replying to tends to get a lot of comments, like CNN or something.

Is there anything that I can do to get people interested in reading my blog? I don't want to be a pest, but I would like some honest critiques.

Maybe you can try vlogging (video Blogging).
Me personally I never make the effort to read large amounts of texts especially if I knew it was a blog.
The only thing I do get interested in are those personalities you would find around Youtube.

There are some accounts which simply post up a few minutes of themselves talking about something, some are very funny and interesting and there are those which aren't.

These tend to be more popular because it's all video and it becomes more personal while we all know who excatly we are getting to know as well.

If you were to type in youtube.com/communitychannel in your browser this is one example of a vlog. You can see how popular someone can get by just posting videos.

Hope this helped.
