Is this really a free speech issue? This seem to be more fallout from the janet jackson "wardrobe malfunction" and the subsequent FCC crack down on indecency. I'm sure Tommy Smith was well aware of this (or should have been). Now is not a good time to be Lewd on a clear channel affiliated station. I honestly dont know what Mr. Smith did but I have flipped past that morning show a few times and it seemed to be seeping with Howard Stern like raunch.
What I find sort of ironic is the fact that people like Tommy Smith and Howard Stern come under intense scrutiny for talking about sex, yet clear channel has done nothing about Michael Savage of the "Savage Nation" who just recently suggested we use a nuclear warhead on a random Arab capital.
I personally find violence to be far more offensive than sex. I however understand and accept the fact that as a nation we publicly abhor anything vaugly pornographic and privately adore it.

Very good points. I guess one day Our government will be totally unreachable except by those with lots of money.

I think free speech has suffered a set back under Bush.

With the DNC as a known terrorist target by intelligence, what else would you do? Let them run around with targets on their foreheads? Granted, it sucks, but it's the lesser of two evils.

In answer to the original question...Couldn't care less. How that channel runs it's business isn't my problem. Once again, "free speech" is not a concept in the private sector, only in the public sector. Now if the gov't took these shows off the air, I'd have a problem with that.

the private sector in this discussion is very much a part of the public sector.

I don't understand why people can't say what they want, and have those who are unhappy just change the station. Now i see your point, the business has the right to change its mind(particularly in this state), and fire whomever, for whatever. In this case, and with the previous Stern incident, Clear channel is making a statement. It is a statement contrary to what they felt before the bush presidency. Sure they have the right to change their mind too. I just don't want to have to have the values of others pushed on to me. However this is part of life. I heard that Corey and Jay are going to replace the morning show. They are funny so I guess i am happy.
