Well, a fast compact car, like the cobatl ss, suburu impreza, etc. will still get great gas mileage, if you're interested in one.

I'm trying really hard to make myself get interested in a small, fuel efficient car. Really, really hard.

Try out a Pontiac Vibe. I hear they're fun little cars and the base model gets 36 mpg highway. They do have Japanese engines, though, so they're kinda high-revving. No low-rpm torquey American engine.

Check out the Chevy Cobalt SS/Pontiac G5 GT, too. I hear those are a blast, and they still get over 30 mpg highway.

I have a vibe and I love it. It's decent on gas with proper driving

If you can find a moderately priced Suburu, get it. Those things are fun to drive, reasonable on fuel, and are great in snow and off-road if you ever need it. The best kind of suburus are the WR-X's, but they tend to be more pricey. My friend has an Outback Impreza, and it is sweet.

You could get one of the new camaros when they come out next year. They might be a little pricy though. They're direct injected which means lots of power, but better fuel efficiency.

Or the new Dodge Challenger SRT8 looks cool. 425hp and tons of torque. 6.1L engine. Just make sure you don't get the automatic transmission because Dodge makes horrible automatics.

If you really want power and size though. Go with a diesel truck. Like an '06 Powerstroke. If you put a superchip in that thing. You can just go out and waste the rice burners.

I'd say get you a Fiero, swap in a turbocharged Ecotec 4-cylinder, and have it all for less than the down payment on any new crap.
