2) Thanks, I was actually asking if anyone had any ideas on how to get the ball rolling to make people more aware and actually do something because, let's face it, not a lot of people actually know why they have to cut their plastic use and even then some people won't do anything.
And 3) What's "we"? I've hardly been on the last couple of days never mind chatting with Delta.
1) It really is, I learnt it in school, but I can only tell you this so many times, you believe and act on what you want.
2) I was trying to get you to think of things yourself, but if I let something slip your welcome
3) 'We' was referred to the only two people I have been talking to on this thread, I was meant to point out somewhere how one was being reasonable and countering my arguments and one wasn't...thus separating you two (if you know what I mean )

1) Come up to Falkirk and talk to the random neds. Most of them haven't a clue about anything more than petrol is bad. It doesn't get consistently taught up here in fact, I think it was only ever really mentioned in Geography (which most people don't take) and, in passing, in chemistry and biology. I got most of my stuff on my own and the work we did on energy sources in Physics and Tech Studies.
2) Ok
3) Sounded sort of like you were lumping us together. Sorry

28/M/Swansea, United Kingdom Join Date: Mar 2008 | I was in Marks and Spencer the other day (high brow) and they were doing a "bag for life" campaign where you get a plastic bag for free and you use it every time you come to M&S.. trying to score brownie points with the enviroment, then a very worrying paradoxial moment occurred when I walked past a worker who was shoving a load of food in this bag, so I asked what they were she said they are goin in the bin, and there was a binbag full of food (not off) they were throwing away..
I thought to myself that the way humanity thinks is so skewed..
they could have easily put this food out in front of the shop and passers by (homeless, the less fortunate) could just take then, but they dont (i'm not having a go at M&S, its the logic the big companies use)..
they are only doin the bag for life campaign to make themselves look good, they dont care about the environment, and they wouldnt put food for people to come get, cos if they had tramps outside their store it would look bad. What a world ay!!! "Save the planet" ?? the planet will be here millions of years after us, "save the people" I say!
nice to rant!

Well like I said, companys are doing something, even if they do use it as a way to get customers.

We have to recycle more and we need to stop dumping and littering. Lives depend on this. Not just ours, but innocent creatures such as the albatross.
You see, when you dunp stuff in the ocean, it doesn't stay there, the ocean currents pull it along to places such as Midway, the home of around 2 million Laysan albatorsses, an endangered species whom plastic waste is now poisoning and choking to death.
It's not just albatrosses who are affected, every marine creature is affected by this and many bird species too, such as the seagull, but I feel I owe the albatrosses something for giving me such a cute nickname. (To Delta62 I am "little Albatross".) So I've decided to make some noise and I need to figure out how. So I'm asking you guys to help me in this because they really do need our help.
It can start really simply as well. Most super-markets sell "bags-for-life" and I know that Claire's Accessories sell re-usable shopping bags which come in pouches and this is a good start. We have to wean ourselves off plastic to save them. We also have to spread the word. So, any ideas?

Just a thought have you considered starting a myspace profile? many people have with your concerns and they seem to get a lot of people supporting them! i personally use re-usable bags and all e-cover products and buy organic food etc. yet the truth is that's through personal choice and many people out there just don't give a s**t about the environment and you'll never get them to change because they're happy living their lives the way that they do.
I only chose a greener lifestyle because i became a member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Direct Action Crew, i love the ocean it's where i spend a lot of my time, so i wanted to do something positive to try and protect it and all the living things that depend on it.
If you're passionate about this there are ways you can help and do something positive, but i'd definately reccommend myspace because like minded people will find you. If you do decide to take that route PM me your link and i'll send you a friends request goodluck with your campaign | | |
