I saw this program that showed you could get electricity from trees, by spiking them. They
didn't say how it worked, just showed that trees can produce electricity. Anybody else know
about this?

Unintelligible!

It's probably a very tiny amount that wouldn't be useful to anybody.

I feel blessed, the almighty responded to one of my posts. I can die happy. ...
just kidding! What if you had 1,000,000 trees hooked up, we have them plus
more in Canada?

Suppose it takes that many to power a toaster?

Presumably tree sap is mildly acidic. All it then takes is a zinc electrode and a copper electrode and you've created an electrochemical battery. The acid is freeing up electrons from the zinc electrode, and they are reacting with the copper electrode, with a by product of Hydrogen gas.

Tino's joke about taking a million trees to power a toaster is probably not too far off the money. The power of these sorts of natural batteries is typically measured in the milliamps.

Sure it's not the trees collecting all the microwaves we have all about us?

I did some reading. They are hammering a nail into the tree, and a conductor into the ground. This is simple electrolysis. The upshot? Whatever voltage they claim to be getting, they are getting currents in the milliamps if they are lucky, more likely fractions of a milliamp.

This just isn't commercially viable, and I see some investors losing money over this pipe dream.

I'd say the most they can expect to get out of this is the ability to mount LEDs on trees, and power them from the tree itself.
