Hi there - I got windows XP home edition and got a windows XP media center 2005 edition dvd lying around. I want to install the new XP edition (since it's better and I want to be able to watch television, ext.) so I need help on how I can do this while keeping my data.

So what I guessed to do was to defrag my system (done with perfect disk 200 and then go make a second partition (never done this with windows before) so I looked at the windows knowledge base and found out I had to run this program called compmgmt.msc so I did and went to "disk managment" when i got there there was just one partition - C: - taking up 149.05 GB's on my disk. Then beside it there is 1MB of "Unallocated space". So clearly there's no space for a second partition. I am using 79.7GB of my C: drive so I want to resize my C: partition and take off 50GB to make a second 50GB partition and then slop on windows XP media center onto the 50Gb partition. Then somehow (havn't thought this far) transfer my files from xp home partition to xp media center partition and then erase the xp home partition and resize the xp media center again to 149.05GB....

but I bet/hope theres a easier way.... if not can someone help me out - how to resize the partition???

I have no clue how to do this.

thanks in advance
-Nick

Nick, you cant resize a partition without deleting it first. Therefore if you have a 60gb hd, and 3 10gb partitions then you would think I have 30gb free, let me just expand one

but the way the disk is setup you cant do that you actually have to erase one partition then with the free space create a new one the size you would like.. If you google it there may be a way but as far as my A+ courses taught me you can't.
