So um yea..i just felt like voiceing my opinion on this haha....i have had type 1 diabetes since i was ten and it pritty much sucks...i know people dont think its that big of a deal anymore because its managable..but more and more people are being diagnosed with either type one or type two diabetes. I know there are other diseases out there that need more attention but what i dont get is why they stall on this one..in brazil they did something with stem cell research and they made a guys pancreas(which is the reason people get diabetes..the pancreas fails)to get working again and it still works now for 3 years. I mean they have this right there on their finger tips but they are still taking so long to get the surgery for it out there...hurry the F up.

I read this study about how the amino acid Taurine was able to help diabetes by repairing damage that had occurred to the pancreas that had made it stop working. Maybe it could help?

haha yea that would be pritty awesome...idk if its true but if it is im on the right track cause Energy Drinks have taurine in them and i drink those alot :P

My 6 year old son was diagnoised at the age of 3. I'm sure you know that every type one is different, my poor son is so brittle that he has to test himself 10-14 times aday. He goes low all the time even on the pump we have to feed his insulin because he is on such a low dose of insulin (about 9 units of novalog a day and 260 grams of carb). I even have to test him throughout the night and at his school since they have no nurse. I'd give my life for a cure and i believe there are many different triggers to type one and every case needs to start to be individualized rather than all grouped together.

Poor little guy. Good luck! By the way, what's up with no school nurse? Is that a public school?!

my hubby was diagnosed in 1984,then callopsed and his friend took him to the hospital and they said he wasnt diabetic,so the pills were stopped about 02,he was working on our car and he said he had somethink in his eye,i took him to the hospital who sent him to the nearest eye hospital who told him he had floaters and was on the last stage of a disease which if he hadnt have gone to them would make him blind,he know has insulin,easter wkend he stubbed his big toe,i bathed it no cuts just a little red and kept an eye on it during the week,the next sunday he dropped a carrier bag containing 12 cans of coke on his foot,when he got home i looked again and called the emergency dr out cos hes toe was disgusting to look at and i knew that smell,the dr gave us a prescription and told me to take to the hospital the next day to have his toe nail removed and his toe x-rayed which i did,that was on the mon,on 1st april he had his big toe amputated and were not sure now if he has to have more done know cos the wound is left open and ill start to heel in 7 to 10 days where the nurses will come round and fold the skin to a envelope shape and bandage it so the skin knits together,it hasnt done that so theres a 1 in 10 chance he could lose more.im not telling you all this long worded story to make people pity him,he doesnt even do that hinself,the gangerene was there if he hadnt dropped the coke we may not have known till he lost his leg to the knee,this is being told to the new diabetics,this disease is serious,it can blind you,it can kill you,and it can kill you if not managed properly,so for those who have it and dont look after yourself please do yourself and those you love a favour and manage your diabetus.

I've been a diabetic now for almost 11 years, when I was a child we went on a family trip and I was sick the whole week we were away, when we got home I went to the doctor's and they couldn't find anything wrong so I went home I got a little better so my mom wasn't worried, now I went on for awhile being sick and the doctor just saying it was nothing, now I have a sister who was already a diabetic so my mom had an idea what was wrong but the doctor kept saying I was okay, then finally the day came I had been sick for about a week and I passed out in my house my mom made my father come and take us to the hospital and then finally there they figured it out. I have so many problems because of the fact the doctor that thought I was okay, that I think doctors should learn more about it themselves. I support and donate to the juvenile diabetes foundations because I do believe the research has to be out there and is, to help us all make our lives better and easily live able without testing blood and insulin injections

Sorry this is so long but I have many feelings about this subject matter
