Moving to California from Birmingham in the United Kingdom is it a good or bad idea? Not really sure on how to start the whole moving process so any help on that would be gratefully appriciated.

Good luck.

I presume you have a job and home all lined up?

Not a good idea man, your going to miss the climate terribly bad. And hey, Birmingham has got some of the best beaches in the world.

You have to have a job offer from a company within the US before you can apply for a work Visa. In order for that company to offer the job to you, they have to be able to say that no American citizen has the skills necessary to fulfill the job. Once you have an official written letter (on official company letterhead)from the company offering you the position, you take that and show it to immigrations in order to get a work visa. a work visa only lasts so long, I'm not sure though, but it must be renewed every so often.

Pick another state. I'm getting out of here as soon as I get the chance. There is a reason why california has the nickname "commifornia"
