Well I know its a long time since this topics been posted but the new "budget card" (bang for your buck is a better description) has to be the ATI HD4850... its said to be better than the 9800GTX and not too long ago this card was twice its current value but had to drop in order to compete with 4850(which is still significantly cheaper)

but otherwise Ill echo whats been said previously: go for the 8800gt, you could check on gumtree for someone selling it for cheap.

DirectX improves the graphics, security, and performance of your operating system.

i think DirectX 9.0 can support most of the speed games in a general sphere.

so my old geforce 2 mx 400 can play need for pro street wanted as long as it has DX9?

I think the idea is that everything else considered (RAM, CPU etc.) it'll be able to play "most of the speed games in a general sphere". If you dont have F1 tyres on an F1 car the car wont be able to ride like an F1 car. If you have F1 wheels on a normal car it doesnt mean the normal car will be able to ride like an F1 car.
