I was watching Disney's Alice in Wonderland with my baby cousin this morning and I still it! Anyways, I want to buy the book but it's been published by so many and I'm not sure which version would completely capture Alice's story wholly. I'm leaning more towards the Barnes & Noble Classics version but I'm not sure, what do you suggest?

If it says "original" and "Lewis Carroll" I think you'd be off to a good start.

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll wtote the story, but I agree that Barnes and Noble would be the place to start/

But if you wanted an older copy , etc...try e-bay!

I believe I bought the Barnes and Noble version. Its not really that they are different versions, they are just different publishers. But Lewis Carrol was the one who actually wrote it. Great book by the way.

Oh my goodness i'm so excited! I am borderline obsessive about Alice!! Such a wonderful story and a truly fascinating imagination which threw the life of its author into the murky swamps of much speculation (paedaphile or not, drug addict or not etc) I recently bought the penguin classics version which contains "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", "Through the looking glass", and the relatively short "Alice's adventures underground".

There is also some very useful sections regarding the motivation behind the books and their characters, study notes and a fabulous introduction involving "Nonsense Vs Meaning". I'm really glad that i chose this copy and i don't know if you've read it before but the Disney version is actually a culmination of Wonderland and the Looking Gla** books squidged together.

Happy reading and send my regards to the caterpillar!

Britney and Lulu recommend:

"The Annotated Alice" by Lewis Carroll ISBN-13: 9780393048476 November 1999

This version has notes by Martin Gardener, who explains some of the more obscure parts. According to Barns & Noble it was published in 1999, but we have a moldy old copy from the 1960's.

Caterpillar Theme Song

You can pick a morning gloria,
On the side walks of Peoria,
Oh! How I wish I was in Peoria,
Tonight.

Caterpillars become butterflies, they fly back to Peoria.
