The sounds thing wouldn't help me at all, because sounds right next to my ear will trigger it. Mines not so much a sound itself, but a thumping sensation, I guess one of the rarer forms of it. If my left ear is rubbing against the pillow, my right ear will start thumping, so I have to lay flat on my back when it's an issue. Low frequencies will set it off just about every time. Summer is so annoying for me because there are low-frequency air conditioners everywhere.

sorry for the long post.
Hello, i have had tinnitus for about a year and half now. it drives me nuts...no insane. i have been doing ok. i get the high pitch ringing, but recently i started to get a slightly lower pitch in my left ear. it started at the end of October. they said my ear drum & canal was red. they put me on an antibiotic and i started to feel better. but 2 days after i was done it came back. i had an MRI & the ear nerves where ok. i had a hearing test & they said i had some loss of hearing in lower feq's, but i could not hear them cuz the ringing was so loud. i am on depression & anxioty pills but this is driving me to the edge. i am scared and never had thoughts of not being here. i know people on here know how i feel. i have a 4 year old & a newborn on the way. i could not imagine not being here for them. i just need someone to talk to who knows my pain...

hang in there, i know it drives us to the brink of wanting to blow our brains out some days. The worse thing is the more we think about it the worse it gets.

You literally have to train yourself to listen to other things and to shut out the noise.

Trust me you are not alone, there are billions of us.

I've got used to mine and I can normally cope with it during the day when there is extraneous noise around me. It's at night that I find it hard. It wakes me up with a start sometimes. Never mind, onwards and upwards.

Hopefully, after awhile, you will become used to it, so it will become just background noise,as it has for me. It used to bug me no end, but, I've gotten used to it.

At the moment, I've got two different sets of noises going, one in each ear. Playing music helps.
