Its now been 21 hours since i started this penicillin (Phenoxymethylpenicillin) - the swelling has decreased by about 60%. How long do you think it will take? I'd hate this stupid bacteria to ruin my weekend. I don't mind still having the infection, just i want rid of this swelling tonsil (that causes verbal distortions as i speak):@
Nurofen + helps the pain when i swallow... Am i allowed to take nurofen + when im taking penicillin? my doctor didn't say a word when I told him i was taking nurofen at the time.
I have another problem, this morning i woke up to my tounge being very dry (usually lack of water as it hurts when i swallow water). as i scraped my tounge with my front teeth, a layer of white foamy substance came off, it was like a slimey white stuff. Any ideas on this? or how to prevent it ?
And thanks all the people who have posted. Anyones contribution helps me ALOT and i am very greatful.
Forget about the week-end, and concentrate on taking care of your health first..there will be plenty more week-ends to come, and the pains gonna be there regardless, so, be patient
..the Nurofen + is probably okay since he didn't say it isn't ..but if that were me, I would get into a habit if I were you of asking the question again, and again, and again if need be, until he answers you..
Docs are only human too you know, and his thoughts could have been somewhere out there on cloud nine..he really may not have heard you..
Get on the phone and tell him you'd like him to verify for you that the meds are safe to be taken together, as he didn't acutually answer, and this is causing you mental stress..
and also tell him about your tongue, and any other symptoms too that you may notice which can possibly be an adverse reaction to the medication

Penacillin normally takes anything up to 48 to kick in properly. Give it time. Theres a reason your doctor has prescribed that type of penicillin, and that doseage. I suggest completely the prescribed course, and have faith. If after you have finished all the tablets you still feel ill, go back. It could be something more serious etc.
If you read the instructions that come with the penicillin, it should tell you what painkillers you can and cant take with them. If in doubt, go to your local chemist. They will be able to advise you. Thats their job
As for the tongue thing. I think, and im no doctor, that it might be where you are sleeping with your mouth open, allowing the saliva to dry on your tongue. When I have tonsilistus, or a stuffed nose, and it hurts to swallow, i end up sleeping with my mouth open, which results in what you have said. Again, if you are that worried, call your doctor back or take a trip to your chemist.
