Hands down, the 2 scariest books I've ever read were 'Pet Semetary' and 'The Shining'

Intensity by Dean Koontz. That book was awesome!

If you want scary, check out H.P. Lovecraft. "At the mountains of madness" is a very popular one. He has an extremely different style of horror. It's very intense. Authors like Stephen King and Dean Koontz claim to be influenced by him.

Pet Semetary and the Shining are very very creepy books. And Intensity by Koontz, takes me to a dark place in my mind. But I have to agree with Johnny, H.P. Lovecraft and Clive Barker influenced great writers like King and Koontz. Lovecraft gets into your bones and holds your hand as you shiver through the night, its amazing. My scariest of all time? Sacrament by Barker.

OK, so maybe it's not the scariest of books, but when I read the title of the thread it was the first thing to come to mind.
I remember reading a certain scene in Island of the Blue Dolphin... The little girl was looking for something in a dark cave by the water, and it was talking about how she was sure she could see eyes everywhere peering at her from the dark.
I was a little girl and it just really creeped me out!
