Thanks for sharing the joke with me Mansio. It is many years now since I visted the Impressionist gallery but I preferred it to L'Oeuvre. Some how it seemed more lively and brighter. From now onwards I will think of it as the Apple Juice Gallery.
Not far from there was a large market called Les Halles. I worked there for a while in a Cafe called Au Chien qui fume. This was to help out my student grant. Bet it's all changed ? They were starting to pull down the fruit and fish markets while I was there in 1972.
It's a pity I never concentrated more on my spelling back in those days.
Anyway, thanks again and please continue to 'puy me right.'

The café has its web page in French and English at au-chien-qui-fume.com. Les Halles are now a semi-underground shopping mall. I've heard they want to demolish it again.
The real halles are in Rungis a suburb.

Salut Spanky, comment tu vas ? (I should say "comment vas-tu?" but French evolves)

J'etais un plongeur depuis un mois. Je chercherai le chien qui fume.com > Famous for it's Soup a l'onion au gratinee.
Les halles never went to sleep and there was always 'cash in hand' work for the students.

I know I'm fantastique but what else is ?

Pratique and not practique. English is a living museum of old French. Btw no majuscule to le français (the language) but le Français (the Frenchman).

"J'étais plongeur pendant un mois".
In English you say "I was a soldier", in French "j'étais soldat".
Btw soldier and soldat comes from "la solde" the salary, which itself comes from "le salaire", which comes from "le sel", the salt which was given as a salary.
Au chien qui fume not "le" chien.

"Ayez pitié". But we say "tu" to each other, so "aie pitié".

You're old ? What should I say ?
Tu es vieux ? Qu'est-ce que je devrais dire ?

Peut etre Mansio - a bit of sympathy would not go amiss. 'Cos after all * I have been old for ages.*

Je parle francais avec le main guache (I can't use both hands, as they do ) Je servrai le mot tu as you have decreed. My grandmother told my mum .."This child is speaking only in the present." I was 7 yrs old.
