Recently there has been a spree if violence at a couple of nearby schools. I have talked so some teacher friends one who works in a school with a high percentage of ?problem ? kids. The conversations covered the mandatory testing and how it is hard to teach the kids when they have twenty-five in a class and there is always one or two or more kids that are just plan disruptive. The teachers get very defensive when they hear from parents that their kids test scores are low, and blame the school.

Now when the politicians get involved and try and address the school issues, whether it is violence or lower test scores, some want more testing and blame the school other want to throw more money at the school and develop ?new programs, ? or install metal detectors.

Anyway, I know I am rambling, but my point the problem is not the schools, lack of money, or etc. The cause of the problem is not the government. The problem is the family. And that is where the solution lies. The family has to be strengthened and supported so the child can be supported. We cannot expect schools to teach our children everything, which some are trying to do which I have a problem with.

So how do we reverse the problem?

I think there will always be an underclass. It's hard to explain, because some
people fight there way out of disfunctional families in bad neighborhoods in
poor countries. But, I think that genetics and environment play a big part. If
education can be promoted in a positive way, it may take, but there is nothing
like hunger to create an appetite for progress.

Well said.

I don't think that genetics play as big a role in this as you may think. There is an underclass because the over class wants it. They need to have low wage works for there factories. This has been this way for ever, but with the world getting smaller this entire mentality has to change.

"Problem kids." "Problem parents" "Problem families"
"Problem individuals"
I would give them:

Some 'lads army'
Followed with
A bit of 'hard loving'
Followed with good 'commonsence' 'life education'
Followed by some 'good' social and finacial support at the end.
And if after all that, they still pissed everybody off,
I'd shove them down cleaning sewers, breaking rocks, etc. till they get the message that we don't need this hastle, making peoples life a misery, in schools, workplaces, etc, etc.

I think that you touched upon one of the real reasons there are so many problem kids. Even in the rich subrubs. Many kids have too much time on their hands. Many parents don't make their kids earn any money, by even doing chores, much less getting a job. There are so many jobs during the summer in this area, that the business owners have to hire foreign workers because the local kids don't want to wash dishes. not good!
