I wish the United States would get some Professional Rugby teams going. American Football is so overrated, and the advertising is through the roof.... [smile]https://c.tfster.com/images/smilies/Err.gif">

Well the US did have a short lived professional league that folded earlier this year. Despite it's lack of success I think a new professional league will be created in the not too distant future.

Rugby may be a small blip on the US sports market but it's doing ok nonetheless. For example, in 2010 the U.S. had 81,678 registered players (10th largest in the world).

The USA sevens is continuing to grow and with rugby 7's now an Olympic sport funding is proving to be a little easier. The game is also continuing to grow in US colleges.

World Rugby are also committed to holding a World Cup in the USA within the next 10 years or so.

Rugby by the way is second only to association football as the most popular team sport in the world.

Hmm, according to Forbes there were 400,000 registered players in the USA in 2015.

Interesting to see that Nabuli has been selected to make his international debut at the age of 28. Nabuli has only been playing Super Rugby for 2 seasons and replaces Henry Speight who has been ruled out with a hamstring. strain.

NZ and England are clearly the two strongest rubgy nations in the world at the moment and so it's fitting that their U20's team will meet once again in the final of the world rugby championship.

England have won 3 of the last 4 u20's championships with the kiwis having won just once in the past 5 years.

The ARU have finally announced that the Perth based Western Force will not take part in the newly restructured Super Rugby. That said the WF (who made their début in 2006) are unlikely to go quietly into the night and the cash strapped ARU are likely to have an expensive legal fight on their hands.

I see that the SRU have announced a new semi-professional Super Six league with a 20-match season commencing in 2019.

The Wallabies have finally had a win over the All Blacks. The match was very physical and played at a very high tempo. It was in many ways an old fashioned Bledisloe Cup arm wrestle.

After coming so close in Dunedin the Wallabies were worthy winners. Hodge and Izzy were very good as was Dempsey who was playing in only his 6th test (and his first against the AB's).

NZ missed Barrett and his replacement Sopoaga had an ordinary game. There is of course still quite a gap btw the Wallabies and the top two teams in world rugby. The challenge now is to build on the promise of this win and their performances in their past few games. The northern tour will be a very challenging one and will tell us whether the signs of improvement in recent matches are a promise of better days ahead or another false dawn.

For NZ and Southern hemisphere rugby it's important that Australia and RSA improve and are able to challenge the AB's.

A try-fest btw Alba and Samoa with the visitors coming from 32-10 down to nearly snatch what would have been a remarkable victory. In the end the Scots held on to win 44-38.

Éire thrashed a Springbok team that is a mere shadow of its former self. The lads from the Emerald Isle ran out victors 38-3.

Cymru and Australia are teams that are both in transition. In the end it was the wallabies who got the chocolates but in truth the 29-21 scoreline flattered the visitors. Cymru made a number of costly errors and struggled at times to exit their 22. This really hurt them. Nonetheless, for much of the second half Cymru looked the better team and only a stolen try by Beale (playing at full back in the absence of Izzy) gave Australia a wee bit of breathing space.

Cymru as ever were passionate and entertaining but they are clearly not in the same class as the teams of 2012/13. So whilst defeating them was an achievement the wallabies will know that they need to find another gear to compete against England. Indeed, some in the English media have stated that a good English club side would beat Australia.

For Australia Will Genia had a very impressive match whilst Foley was solid. Beale at full back was good as were Kuridrani and Polota-Nau.

There were a couple of times in the first half where Australia was able to maintain possession and build pressure. In the second half however the Wallabies were back to forcing passes early and needlessly kicking away possession. The scrum was also a concern at times. Like I said, there is a lot of room for improvement and they are going to need to find that improvement very quickly or else England will record a comfortable victory.

By the way, it was nice hearing that the public announcements at the match were in Cymraeg first...

As expected NZ defeated France who showed some character by fighting back in the second half after trailing 31-5 at the break. In the end they lost 38-18 with the All Blacks becoming the first international team to score 2,000 tries.

It's a huge shame that NZ don't meet England during their "spring" tour.
