Yeah I agree. They were looking shaky at 5/117 but they have recovered really well. Should win the test from here which would give them a series win over only their third opponent (having previously beaten the West Indies and Zimbabwe).

Handscomb's innings shows why Test cricket is king really, if he kicks on a scores a 100 tomorrow it'll be one of the best innings in Australian history considering how young he is and how he toughed it out.

Although kind of feel the Bangas missed a trick with him. He was clearly not in a god way other there but they didn't tighten up the field on him and let him get a few easy singles.

Australia with a 72 run lead built largely on the back of Warner and Handscomb.

Australia won the 2nd test by 7 wickets. Shame for both sides this was only a 2 test series.

Continuing batting collapses, a poor performing middle order and a heavy reliance on Lyon and Cummins for wickets characterised the two test series. The performances of Warner and Lyon in particular papered over some pretty big cracks that need to be addressed before the summer.

The ICC is likely to grant Test status to the four-day match between South Africa and Zimbabwe on Boxing Day. If they do they will be setting a dangerous precedent. It would likely prove to be the thin edge of a wedge.

Herath for Sri Lanka joins the 400 wicket club bowling Sri Lanka to a win against Pakistan.

What a Test both sides scoring over 400 in their first innings with just 3 runs separating them....on the last day Sri set a target of 141 after losing 6 wickets...Pakistan all out for 118.

So the ICC have approved four day tests despite opposition from players and the MCC...and many cricket fans. Strangely the ICC are of the opinion that four day tests are more likely to see a result (that isnt a draw). Didnt quite explain how that works.

There is also to be a 2 year cyclical league of sorts with the top two teams playing off in England. The sensible option would have been to have had 2 leagues with promotion and relegation with the top team hosting the final. Money and self interest however scuppered this plan before it could go very far.

The latest ICC test rankings have England at 3 and Australia at 5.

Nice to hear Howard saying that the number 6 spot is up for grabs and that it is first and foremost a batting position as opposed to a position reserved for an all rounder. Also pleased to hear him say that performances in the upcoming Shield matches will most likely determine who is given the number 6 position. Hopefully his words are backed up by action.

No blokes in the first round really stood up and made 6 theirs.

Alas not. The middle order in general and the number 6 spot in particular remain an issue...as does the wicketkeeping position.
