I keep thinking of a movie yet to be produced: The Wolf of Bitcoin...well no doubt it on YouTube somewhere...

I doubt Leonardo will star in it...though maybe he'll get a cameo role for fun and nostalgia.

I should have googled that before my post...

Spoiler alert...adult language and situations...but no nudity...I don't think worthy of a punch, but maybe...

There's an article in CNN about China cracking down on Bitcoin and it's value is dropping. 20% in a week

Stay away from it, it seems to be a sucker bet. When a means of commerce comes along like that, it will be easy to tell if it is going to stick.
Bit Coin is a stopgap and it wont succeed, not in my estimation anyway. There ain't no intrinsic value in it, and there is no means of enforcing any value. It could slowly disappear, and then what? Nothing, that's what, you could lose your shirt.

I bought and sold during the summer last year, breaking even. If I had waited a bit longer before selling I could have sold for 5-10 times what I bought for. If I bought a bit later, I would have lost thousands by now.

Too volatile.

Is it true that it takes days for the transaction to take place (buy in,cash out)?
I thought I read that somewhere on here.

And in days, yes it could fluctuate wildly.

Not sure. It was pretty quick last summer, but I’ve heard that things got pretty congested afterwards, along with higher fees.

I used to admin a torrent site forum years ago when bitcoin first came out and they started asking for donation to help with running costs in bitcoins. They were like $7.50 at the time. I looked at them then with a view to buying some but thought they would be a flash in the pan. Man was I wrong.

There is the story about the Swedish man who bought $15 worth and ended up selling them years later for $105k

I was talking to a lady in work (a customer) who had invested what she thought was £500 turns out she hit an extra 0 and had invested £5000 in the crypo call Etherium. As we spoke she showed me the investment was sitting around the £1500 mark. That being said as bitcoin runs out and becomes harder to get people will undoubtedly switch to others and Etherium is tipped to be the next big one so if she's patient enough she may just well end up a winner.

Figuring out how to report and document my bitcoin transactions for tax purposes was a pain in the a** as well, another reason I haven’t gotten back into it since.

"Should cryptocurrencies be regulated like securities?"

In most cases, according to CATO ,
probably not because they are commodities."

"The SEC’s classic test for a security defines it as (1) an investment of money (2) in a common enterprise (3) with the expectation of profits (4) from the efforts of others. The "developments since the launch of Ethereum in 2014 mean that the platform presently fails to meet criteria" #2 and #4.
